Did you know your horse could get acupuncture?
Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has existed for more than 5000 years.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the effectiveness of acupuncture as a form of analgesia, or pain relief.
Equine acupuncture is used extensively for musculoskeletal problems such as muscle soreness and back and neck pain. It can also be incorporated into the conventional treatment of many other conditions such as anxiety, estrus irritability in. mares, allergies, and gastrointestinal issues.
It is a drug-free option for all horses – but especially performance horses competing under FEI or Equine Canada rules.
When acupuncture needles are inserted – the body releases a cascade of chemicals including serotonin and dopamine which help horses to feel calm and relaxed.
